Nerudova, Prague 1 The building named "At the golden wheel", which origins go back to the XIV. century is located in the picturesque street called Nerudova that without any doubt is the most known of Prague's historical streets. In past that was one of the principal streets of communications which lead to the castle and it is still these days the most beautiful and frequented way of Malá Strana. It is also a part of the famous "royal" tourist itinerary that connects the whole historical center of Prague departing from the Wenceslas Square passing through the Charles Bridge heading to finish its run inside of the Prague Castle. The building with its predominantly Baroque style has been carefully restored under the supervision of the Preservation Art Department with the purpose of renewing its original splendor. This small romantic hotel offers 17 luxuriously furnished guestrooms with warm and pleasant atmosphere. Each of them has its own indistinguishable charm and is situated either in the principal building or in the fascinating Baroque villa in the courtyard. The two wings of the hotel building are connected between each other through two comfortable elevators and there is an enchanting stairway that brings you to a relaxing garden bordering with the old boundaries of the Prague Castle. From the upper floors the guests can enjoy the breathtaking view over the castle or the Petrin Hill and surely on the famous red roofs of Mala Strana. In some of the hotel rooms can be found ceilings of wooden painted beams or Baroque stuccoes ceilings. The apartments are provided by minibar, Tv + SAT, Internet connection and the attic part is also supplied with air conditioning. On the ground floor there is an inviting coffee shop where the breakfast will be served to the hotel guests. Also everybody walking up and down the Nerudova Street can spend a pleasant pause there while tasting a cup of great Italian coffee together with some delicious cold speciality of our varied offer. Martin from Dublin have just spend 4 nights at the Golden Wheel and I cannot fault this hotel at all. The staff were wonderful and always helpful. We were in Prague for my cousin's wedding and most of the wedding party stayed at the hotel. They could not do enough for us! The location is great too, on Nerudova Street, which is the gorgeous narrow cobbled street that leads to Prague Castle (only a few minutes away). The rooms were fabulous - clean and bright - and the beds were really comfortable (you may need to ask for extra pillows though!). The breakfast was varied with lots to choose from, including ham & eggs (any way you want them), fresh fruit, yogurts, juices, croissants, danish, various breads and cereals. Also great 'wake-you-up' coffee and several flavoured teas to choose from. Check out the cafe/bar in the courtyard directly across the street - best bruschetta I ever tasted. Also, the bar in the Hotel U Brany (Nerudova 21) does the best chicken noodle dish! They also serve a great beer called Kelt, which will tide over those of you Irish tourists who are missing your Guinness! Iwould not hesitate to reccommend The Golden Wheel to anyone - I think it deserves 5 stars. |
